Emmanuel International Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, 600 Genoa Street, holds its annual Juanita Paulk James Scholarship service at 11 a.m., Sunday, June 21.

Recipient of this year’s $500 educational grant is Christian Chilson, an honor graduate in the Ware County High School Class of 2026 and the son of Christopher and Verna Chilson.

The scholarship is named in honor of the late Juanita Paulk James, a respected educator who dedicated more than 40 years to teaching and educational leadership. She served students in Coffee, Pierce, Atkinson, and Ware counties in both instructional and administrative roles.

James also served as principal of the Paulk School in Ambrose, Ga., coached girls’ basketball for many years, and mentored numerous spelling bee champions.

Dr. Michael-Angelo James, EIC pastor and Mayor of Waycross, is James’ son. He will be keynote speaker for the service.

For the past 31 years, the church has recognized graduating high school seniors and encouraged continued educational achievement through scholarship opportunities.

Qualifying graduates who plan to pursue higher education may apply for the award to support their academic endeavors.
