State Representative James Burchett delivered a wide-ranging report of the 2026 legislative session during a recent meeting of the Exchange Club of Waycross, outlining key measures affecting education, public safety, infrastructure, and economic development across Southeast Georgia.
Burchett, who represents Dist. 176, briefed members on bills passed during the session, highlighted funding priorities which directly impact Ware County, and discussed ongoing efforts to streamline state services.
The Republican emphasized the importance of maintaining strong communication between local communities and the General Assembly, noting constituent input continues to shape his work in Atlanta.
The representative also addressed several issues which have drawn statewide attention in recent months, offering context on how new laws are expected to be implemented and what local residents can anticipate in the months ahead.
He encouraged attendees to stay engaged in the legislative process and to reach out with concerns or questions as the state transitions into the next fiscal year.
The program was coordinated by Program Chair Ginger Peagler, who introduced Burchett and recognized the Exchange Club’s long tradition of hosting civic and governmental leaders.
Club president Kirby McSwain and presidentelect Danny Bartlett thanked Burchett for his continued service and keeping the community informed on items before the General Assembly.
