Ware County assistant band director named to lead Brantley County unit

Former Ware County High School assistant band director Duncan Ratliff has been to direct the band at Brantley County High School, the Brantley County Board of Education has announced.

The board approved Ratliff as director of the award-winning Heron Pride Band to replace Noah Jackson, who has accepted a position to lead the band program at Brunswick High School.

“I’m thrilled to begin working with the wonderful students of the Heron Pride Band,” Ratliff posted on social media. “I can’t want to see what we accomplish tog ether this year!”

Ratliff, a Valdosta State University graduate, earned a Bachelor of Arts in music and a Master of Arts in teaching (M.A.T.) in music education.

He has served as assistant band director and drum major instructor the past three years at Ware County High. Ratliff directed the Ware County Middle School sixth-grade band.

Ratliff led the 6th-grade beginners to successful festival performances, receiving high praise for the students’ growth. He also has been involved in organizing and hosting district honor band events.

Outside of teaching, Ratliff enjoys performing with local community bands and his church orchestra.

Jackson served six years in his role as BCHS band director.
