Bethany Strickland of Main Street Blackshear/ Better Hometown was the guest speaker at a recent Exchange Club meeting. Strickland updated the club on the expected timeline for each phase of the upcoming city park renovations. Strickland said, “The park is the heart of our community, a place where families gather, children play, friendships are made and memories are created. It is also the home of the Annual Pecan Festival. We are all excited to to see the progress being made and look forward to sharing this beautiful community space.” Strickland also told the club about a project where the entire community is invited to help create a giant American flag mural in celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the United States. The mural will be made from 1,000 small 4 x 4 canvases, each painted by a community member. Senior citizens, students, families, churches, artists and other community members are all invited to participate. Free canvases are available at Blackshear City Hall.
