Pierce County Family Connection Director Stephanie Bell spoke to the Rotary Club about the upcoming Storybook Beginnings Community Baby Shower and Family Literacy Day to be held 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at the Pierce County Gym (formerly the NFC Gym) in Blackshear.
The Rotary Club will assist community partners at the event by volunteering to read to children at the event’s Storybook Garden.
The free community baby shower is designed to support healthy babies, strong families and a lifelong love of reading. Families can enjoy: free diapers, wipes, books, family resources, free Pack ‘n Plays (while supplies last), car seat safety checks and free car seats for qualifying families, child ID fingerprinting and identification kits.
Events will include a Storybook Garden featuring local readers throughout the day, a stroller parade with prizes for the best-decorated stroller, free food and other family-friendly activities, information on literacy, early childhood development and community resources.
“The event’s mission is simple,” says Bell. “Promote healthy babies, literacy, family engagement and community connection.”
Every child in attendance will have the opportunity to take home a free book, and families can learn about resources available throughout our community.
