CANEY BAY — Brantley County High School’s award-winning “Heron Pride Band” has a new band director.
The Board of Education approved Duncan Ratliff as band director to replace Noah Jackson, who accepted a position to lead the Brunswick High School band program.
“I am thrilled to begin working with the wonderful students of the Heron Pride Band,” Ratliff posted. “I can’t want to see what we accomplish together this year!”
Outside of teaching, Ratliff enjoys performing with local community bands and his church orchestra.
Jackson served six years in his role as BCHS band director leading the programs to new heights.
Ratliff, a Valdosta State University graduate, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in Music Education.
He has served as assistant band director and drum major instructor the past three years at neighboring Ware County High School. Ratliff directed the Ware County Middle School 6th-grade band.
Ratliff led the 6th-grade beginners to successful festival performances, receiving high praise for the students’ growth. He is also involved in organizing and hosting district honor band events.
