WAYCROSS — Mrs. Dorothy Rouse Murphy, 85, of Waycross, died early Wednesday morning, June 3, 2026 at Bayview Nursing Home in Nahunta after an extended illness.

Mrs. Murphy was born February 17, 1941, to the late Eva Rouse and Mattie Justice Rouse. Raised on the swamp, she eventually moved to Waycross where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Mrs. Murphy worked for Steve Bowen Construction, Kopp, Peavey and Connor Attorneys at Law, Dial Orthopedics and Miles-Odum Fun eral Home. She was a member of Williams Chapel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Murphy loved people. She always had a smile on her face and a song in her heart. She loved to sing and her personality brightened the day of anyone she encountered.

Along with her parents, Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie Murphy; and her siblings, R.M. Howell, W.H. Howell, Isabell Delk, Idell Thrift, Ocie Cobb, Luther Rouse, Annell Johns, Hodge Rouse and Lavada Sears.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by her husband, Johnny B. Murphy, Sr., of Waycross; three children, Connie Tyson and her husband Rann of Blackshear, Dr. Johnny B. Murphy, Jr., and his wife Sara of Evans, Ga., and Jana Taylor of Blackshear; her grandchildren, Amy McLain and her husband Lance, Ryan Tyson, Holly Morgan and her husband Wes, Skylar Fullard, Johnny B. Murphy III, Dalton Archer, Lane Archer, Makayla Boatright and her husband Bryer, Caroline Murphy and Jake Taylor; her great grandchildren, Reagan McLain, Ryan Hardy Tyson, Maybre Morgan, Josie Morgan, Jayce Dixon, Colby Dixon, Mattie Dixon and Sadie Boatright; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service was held Saturday, June 6, 2026 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel.

A burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
