City of Hoboken highlights

The Hoboken City Council discussed/voted on the following agenda items during its Tuesday, June 2 monthly meeting.

• Approval of June agenda: The council approved the agenda for the June regular council meeting.

• Approval of May minutes: Council members approved the minutes of the previous regular council meeting held in May.

• Resolution for Comprehensive Plan 2027-31: Due to a delay in processing, the resolution for the 2027-31 Comprehensive Plan has been postponed to the July council meeting.

• Audit Report: Due to a delay in processing, the audit report has been postponed to the July council meeting.

• Hoboken Police Department: The Hoboken Police Department reported 50 calls for service, 60 traffic stops, 41 written citations and 19 verbal warnings.

The HPD would also like to congratulate Sergeant Chancy and his wife on their new baby.

• Hoboken Volunteer Fire Department: The HVFD reported 15 calls in the month of May, including one to assist, two medical calls, one debris in the road, eight brush fires, one 10-70 smoke showing, one structure fire and a tree down in front of the fire department.

The HVFD has been busy trying to get things back in order in the aftermath of Brantley County wildfires.

• Street/Water Departments: Austin Jordan asked the council if anything could be done to improve the worn-out condition of Johnny B Road. The council agreed to look into the matter.

• Mobile Home Park: Mayor Joey Crews informed the council several proposals had been made to buy the plot of land on which the mobile home park sits.

While no official plans have been set or adopted, there were talks of interest in developing the property into a subdivision.

• Community Center: A slew of trees surrounding the community center had to be removed this past month after being damaged by harsh weather and bug infestation.

• Office administration: Help is available to victims of recent wildfires. Fire victims with SBA paperwork in need of assistance with business or personal matters can come to the City Hall for more information.

Additionally, City Clerk Linda Henderson will be stepping down from her full-time position as City Clerk to recover from knee surgery. She will still be serving as part-time.

Breanna Lattanzie will fill Henderson’s full-time role.

“I have big shoes to fill,” said Lattanzie, “but I learned from the best.”

Henderson thanked the city for letting her serve 51 years. “It’s bittersweet,” she said.
