Cancer Walk’s return brings out ‘warriors’ despite inclement weather

The Southeast Cancer Walk picked up right where it left off following a seven year hiatus. The fundraising event celebrates cancer survivors in Pierce, Brantley and Ware Counties and raises money to help those fighting the disease. Held annually in the past, the cancer walk had not been held since the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020. The last one was held in 2019.

Canceled in April by wildfires in the area — the exact opposite — heavy rain, threatened to postpone Friday evening’s event. Organizers decided to move the Cancer Walk indoors to the Pierce County Gym and the event and the show went on without any problems.

Fundraising tallies were still be compiled at press time, but the gym was packed throughout Friday’s activities, which featured plenty of fun, food and entertainment — all for a good cause. For additional coverage, please see page 12.
