Bearville was a fun place to be during the Spring

Springtime in Bearville was a joyous one for supporters of Pierce County athletics with three state titles and three runner-up finishes.

The Competition Cheer squad closed out the 2025 calendar winning a second straight state title in December, the ninth over a 15-year stretch that also includes six runner-up finishes.

The Lady Bears’ tennis program followed, capturing their first-ever crown May 13 beating Region 3-AA foe Appling County capping a 24-1 season. PCHS, which had reached the “Final Four” four previous times, beat Morgan County in the semifinals to earn its first-ever appearance in the title match.

The Bears capped a 232 year defeating Columbus 3-1 in the finals to repeat as state champions. The title match was the second straight between the two programs. Pierce County won the 2025 title with a 3-2 victory at home.

PCHS’s boys’ golf team overcame a nine-shot deficit at Okefenokee Country Club after the opening round to win its first title since 2017 and fifth overall May 19.

The girls’ golf team had its string of four consecutive titles end with a runner- up finish to Hart County. The Lady Bears have won seven titles.

The Bears’ soccer program also finished second, falling 2-0 to region foe Savannah Arts Academy in Atlanta May 13 at St. Pius X High School. PCHS was making its first-ever appearance in the championship match. Pierce County’s previous best finish was a “Final Four” trip in 2023.

PCHS’s baseball program (33-6) finished runner-up in the lightning- plagued championship series with Morgan County in Statesboro on the Georgia Southern University campus. It was the fourth time in program history the Bears lost in the bestof three finals.

Pierce County’s Lady Bears’ wrestling program advanced to the Traditional “Final Four” for the first time in program history in February. Jayden Altman placed third in her weight class.

Jaylen Everrett notched a fifth-place finish representing the Bears.

Two programs reached the “Elite 8” with the Lady Bears’ softball team making the trek to Columbus the last week of October. It marked the fifth time in program history PCHS reached the “Elite 8”.

The Lady Bears’ soccer program was ousted at Columbus in the third round. Pierce County was making its sixth appearance in the “Elite 8”.

Back in the Fall, the PCHS football team advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the 10th consecutive time. The “Sweet 16” loss ended a streak of five consecutive years of advancing to the third round and beyond.

The Lady Bears’ four-year-old volleyball program also advanced to the second round for the second time in program history.

Track season ended with three thinclads earning medals with Top 8 finishes. Omar Jinks placed second in the 100-meter event and fifth in the 200m. Amir McKenzie was seventh in the high jump while Sahara Minott finished eighth in the shot put.
