7th annual Youth Fishing Derby FOLKSTON — Friends of Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge are hosting the 7th annual Youth Fishing Derby.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 8 a.m.-11:30 a.m. The purpose of this derby is to provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy a fun, outdoor recreational activity.

The fishing derby is free and will be held at Folkston Elementary School Lake, located behind Folkston Elementary School at 285 Little Phoebe Road, Folkston 31537.

Participants must provide their own fishing pole, stringer and bait. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with fishing scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m.

Only one pole per person will be allowed in the water. Measurements and counts will start at 9:30 a.m., and will end at 10 a.m.

Awards will be presented to the winners beginning at 11 a.m. Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the top three winners of each of the following groups: ages 3-6, 7-11, 12-15, and 16+ for the most fish caught, in addition to one overall winner for the largest fish caught.

Waynesville Baptist VBS kickoff WAYNESVILLE — Waynesville Missionary Baptist Church will be having Kickoff for their Illumination Station Vacation Bible School Saturday, June 13 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., with waterslides, food and fun.

VBS will begin Sunday, June 14 and continue through Wednesday night, June 17 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. nightly.

FCA holding triathlon fundraiser WAYCROSS — The annual FCA SPLASH MASH & DASH Triathlon/Duathlon is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Laura S. Walker State Park in Waycross.

The race begins at 7:30 a.m. Prizes will be given to the top overall finishers, male, female and top Masters, the top three finishers in each age division, Clydesdale (male 220+ lbs.), Athena (female 165+ lbs.), Military/LEO/PSO, physically challenged, Fat Tire, top three relay teams, and novice male and female.

Individual entry fees are $85 through Friday, May 29, $95 from May 30-June 9, and $110 the day of the race.

Team entry fees are $170 through Friday, May 29, $190 from May 30June 9, and $220 the day of the race.

The $5 park entry fee will be waived until 7:15 a.m. Fees do not include $15 individual USAT nor $9 per relay team member.

Hickox reunion Sunday, June 14 HOBOKEN — The annual Hickox Family reunion for the descendants of Ernie Hickox, Alzada Shuman Hickox and Allie Oquinn Hickox is scheduled for Sunday, June 14.

The reunion will be held at Twin Oaks Bluegrass Park, 401 Twin Oaks Drive, Hoboken 31542.

The community/meeting room will be open by 11 a.m. Everyone bring your family, come and enjoy a covered dish meal and don’t forget to bring desserts and drinks.
