Early voting begins Monday, June 8 in Brantley County for runoffs in two local races and seven involving national and statewide seats.
Eligible voters can cast early ballots from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Brantley Elections Office, 10305 N. Main Street, through Friday, June 12 ahead of the runoffs Tuesday, June 16.
Voting the day of the runoff will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at county locations. You did not have to cast a ballot for the May 19 General Primary to be eligible to vote in the runoffs.
Seats for Brantley County Commission Post 4 and Brantley County Board of Education Post 4 are the local entries on the ballot. Justin Bowers and Ray Griffin will meet for the commission seat while the school board post is between Richard Gill and Teri Gibson.
Bowers fell just short of the 50 percent, plus one vote, collecting 48.6 percent of the primary vote. Griffin was second in the five-person race with 18.2%.
Gill led for the school board post with 37.8% while Gibson had 32.7% among the four challengers. Both are retired educators.
Atop the list of runoffs for state and national office is the Republican nomination for governor between Burt Jones and Rick Jackson. Jones, the current Lt. Governor, led the primary voting 357,881-303,402.
The winner will face former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms in the General Election, Tuesday November 3. Bottoms easily won the Democrat nomination over Jason Esteves, 606,983-201,523.
Also being contested will be the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate to face sitting Democrat Jon Ossoff in November. Current 10th District Georgia Congressman Mike Collins faces Derek Dooley, son of late Georgia football coach and athletics director Vince Dooley.
The other Republican runoffs are Lt. Governor, and Secretary of State, State School Superintendent and District 6 on the Public Service Commission.
Democrats will consider the seats for Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, First District Congressman, Commissioner of Labor Commissioner, and Commissioner of Insurance.
Greg Dolezal and John F. Kennedy will decide the Republican nomination for Lt. Governor with Josh McLaurin and Nabiliah Parkes meeting for the Democrat nod. For Secretary of State, Republicans Tim Fleming and Vernon Jones meet to see who’ll face the Democrat winner of either Dana Barrett or Penny Brown Reynolds.
On the GOP ballot, incumbent Richard Woods faces Fred “Budda” Longgrear for school superintendent while Bobby Mehan and Josh Tolbert vie for the PSC post.
The other Democrat races have Nikki Porcher and Michelle Michi Sanchez meeting for the labor seat with DeAndre Mathis and Keisha Sean Waites vying for the insurance nomination.
Joyce Marie Griggs and Amanda Hollowell are in the runoff for the Congressional seat.
