Augustine named principal at WCHS

Julie Augustine has been named to replace retiring Ware County High School Principal Dr. Buford Kellogg, the Ware County Schools System announced last week.

Formerly an assistant principal at WCHS during the 2024-25 school year, Augustine was principal at Ruskin Elementary in 2025-26. During her 26year education career, she also has served as a teacher and an instructional coach.

“I want parents and staff to know that relationships are at the heart of how I lead,” Augustine said in the system’s announcement. “I want teachers and staff to feel appreciated, encouraged and supported because when the adults in a school feel valued, students thrive too.

“At the end of the day, I always try to do what’s best for kids.” Dr. Kellogg has been Ware County High principal since 2021.

“Mrs. Augustine is a rel ationship-centered leader who understands the importance of supporting students, staff, and families while maintaining high expectations for success,” Ware County School Supt. Dr. Lynn Barber said in the media release.

“Her experience, integrity, and commitment to doing what is best for children make her an outstanding choice to lead Ware County High School. We are excited about the future under her leadership.”

Augustine said she believes education “has the power to change lives.”

“There’s nothing better than watching students grow in confidence and realize just how capable they are,” she said.
