Pierce County voters also cast ballots to choose nominees for various regional, state and federal offices.
Results include: U.S. House of Representatives District 1: Republican: Jim Kingston dominated voting districtwide and in Pierce County.
Democratic: Joyce Marie Griggs and Amanda Hollowell are advancing to a runoff and also led voting here.
U.S. Senate: Republican: Mike Collins and Derek Dooley are advancing to a runoff. Buddy Carter received the lion’s share of the vote in Pierce County. Carter is currently the U.S. Congressman for District 1.
Democratic: Incumbent Senator Jon Ossoff was unopposed and will face the winner between Collins and Dooley in November.
Governor: Republican: Burt Jones and Rick Jackson are advancing to a runoff and were also the top two candidates in Pierce voting.
Democratic: Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms won the nomination outright and also took a majority of the vote in Pierce. Bottoms will face the winner between Jackson and Jones in the general election.
Lieutenant governor: Republican: John F. Kennedy and Greg Dolezal are advancing to a runoff. State Senator Blake Tillery of Vidalia led the seven person field in Pierce County with 29 percent of the vote. Kennedy was second locally.
Democratic: Josh McLaurin and Nabilah Parkes are advancing to a runoff. McLaurin and Parkes were also the top two vote-getters locally.
Secretary of state: Republican: Tim Fleming and Vernon Jones are advancing to a runoff and were also Pierce’s top two picks.
Democratic: Penny Brown Reynolds and Dana Barrett are advancing to a runoff and were also the top choices locally.
Attorney general: Republican: Brian Strickland won statewide and was also Pierce County’s choice.
Democratic: Tanya Miller won statewide and in Pierce.
Strickland and Miller will face off for the seat in November. Incumbent Chris Carr gave up the seat in an unsuccessful run for the GOP nomination for governor.
School superintendent: Republican: Incumbent Richard Woods narrowly missed the chance to avoid a runoff with Fred “Bubba” Longgrear. The two were also the top picks in Pierce.
Democratic: Lydia Powell and Anton Anthony are advancing to a runoff and were also the top finishers in Pierce.
Agriculture Commissioner: Democratic: Katherine E. Juhan-Arnold won statewide and was also Pierce’s choice.
Juhan-Arnold will face Republican incumbent Tyler Harper in November.
Insurance Commissioner: Democratic: Keisha Sean Waites and DeAndre Mathis are advancing to a runoff. Pierce voters preferred Waites and Clarence Blalock.
The winner between Waites and Mathis will face Republican incumbent John King in the fall.
Labor Commissioner: Democratic: Nikki Porcher and Michelle Michi Sanchez are advancing to a runoff and were also the top picks in Pierce.
The winner will face Republican incumbent Barbara Rivera Holmes. Holmes is running for a term in her own right. She is currently serving the unexpired term of Bruce Thompson, who died in office in 2024.
Public Service Commission District 3: Republican: Fitz Johnson narrowly won, though Pierce County voters preferred his opponent, Brandon Martin.
Johnson will face Democratic incumbent Peter Hubbard in the general election. Hubbard was unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
Public Service Commission District 5: Republican: Josh Tolbert and Bobby Mehan are advancing to a runoff and also led Pierce voting.
Democratic: Shelia Edwards won outright and also carried the bulk of the Pierce vote.
Unopposed: Republican: Candidates who won without opposition include incumbent state court solicitor Adam Ferrell, Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney Marilyn Bennett, incumbent District 7 State Senator Russ Goodman, incumbent District 178 State Representative Steven Meeks, incumbent Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper, incumbent Insurance Commissioner John King and incumbent Labor Commissioner Barbara Rivera Holmes.
Democratic: Candidates who won without opposition included Barry Dunham for District 178 state representative, incumbent U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff and incumbent District 3 Public Service Com missioner Peter Hubbard.
Party questions: Republican: As expected, all eight “strawpoll” questions on the Republican ballot overwhelmingly received “yes” votes statewide and in Pierce County.
Democratic: As expected, both “straw poll” questions on the Democratic ballot over overwhelmingly received “no” votes statewide and in Pierce County.
Nonpartisan Election Locally, State Court Judge Dan Bennett Jr. School board chairman Duward Boatright and Board of Education District 2 member Perry Tison and Board of Education District 4 member Wendy Puryear ran unopposed.
In the Waycross Judicial Circuit, Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Kight won re-election without opposition. All eight statewide judicial candidates—including four with opposition—won re-election. The four challenged incumbents also took a majority of the vote in Pierce County.
