The Pierce County Planning Commission discussed and/or voted on the following during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday, May 12.
Permit to operate childcare facility: The only non-procedural item on the agenda requiring the attention of the planning commission was a request by Delain Williams for a conditional use permit to operate a childcare service.
The childcare facility would be located at 3191 Midway Church Road in Blackshear. The May 12 hearing to determine is the permit would be recommended for approval was previously announced in The Times’ legal section, but only the applicant and one other resident in favor of the plan attended.
Chairman Adam Hart went on record, saying “I rode out there myself and looked at the neighborhood to see how the service would impact the area, if at all.” Hart said one neighbor of the proposed location, who was not present at the hearing, had previously cited 40 year old covenants about land use. Hart stated those covenants were no longer binding.
The commission unanimously voted to recommend the request for approval to the county commission. The matter will be voted on at the next meeting of the county commission scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, at the Southeast Georgia Regional Agriculture Center in Blackshear.
Minutes: The commission unanimously voted to enter the minutes of the April meeting into the record with no updates or additions.
Attendance: Chairman Adam Hart, Timothy Griffis and Rebecca Thigpen were present for the May 12 meeting.
Next meeting: The planning commission will hold its next meeting 8:30 am. Tuesday, June 9 at the courthouse annex on Nichols Street.
