Students at Blackshear Elementary School (BES) recently had an exciting and educational experience during Community Helper Day, where all grade levels participated in hands-on learning about important careers that serve and protect the community.
Throughout the day, students rotated through interactive stations to learn about fire safety, emergency medical services (EMS), law enforcement and the vital work of the road department. Community helpers shared valuable information about their daily responsibilities and how they keep citizens safe.
Students also enjoyed a special dog training demonstration and learned how handlers work closely with their canine partners.
One of the highlights of the event was the life flight helicopter, which captured students’ attention as they learned about emergency air transport and how medical teams respond quickly in critical situations.
Representatives from the Department of Natural Resources also taught students about protecting wildlife, preserving natural habitats and staying safe outdoors.
Students had the opportunity to ask questions, explore equipment, and gain a deeper understanding of how these professionals contribute to the well-being of the community. The event helped inspire appreciation for community helpers while encouraging students to consider future careers in service fields.
BES extends a special thank you to Georgia State Patrol, Blackshear Fire Department, Blackshear EMS, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, Blackshear Police Department, Southern Pines Dog Training, Pierce County Road Department, the Department of Natural Resources and Life Star for their time, dedication and commitment to educating our students and making Community Helper Day a memorable success.
