Wanda Sue Wheeler

ALMA — Wanda Sue Wheeler, age 77, passed away May 21, 2026, at Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.

Mrs. Wheeler was a native of Bacon County. She was born April 6, 1949 to the late Dewey Smith and Leola Wade Smith. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Windell, Cecil and Ronnie Smith.

Mrs. Wheeler retired from Bacon County DFCS as a bookkeeper after many years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Alma and served on their social committee.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Johnny Wheeler; her sons, Derrin Wheeler (Stephanie) and Cam Wheeler; three grandchildren, Grace, Asher and Karsten; sisters, Emily Chancey (Roger) of Nahunta and Marilyn Tomlinson; several nieces and nephews also survive.

A funeral services was held Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Alma with Rev. Pet Hayes officiating and eulogy given by Grace Wheeler.

Interment will follow at Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Active pallbearers include Rhett Boatright, Bryce Martin, Brent Wheeler, Grant Jordan, Logan Paul and Greg Griffin.

Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Clay Carter, Pat Lott, the ICU nursing and respiratory staff of Bacon County Hospital, and the Bacon County Class of 1967.

Crosby Funeral Home of Alma was in charge of arrangements.
