
Buie
HOBOKEN — Mr. Pearce Lavern “Vern” Buie, 91 of Hoboken, died early Saturday morning, May 16, 2026 at his residence after an extended illness.
Buie was born in Odum to the late Vance Buie and Bessie Mae Scott Buie. He had made Hoboken his home since 1961.
H e owned and operated Buie’s Texaco in Hoboken and attended Hoboken Baptist Church.
Buie was an avid runner and bowler. He was a longtime member of the Waycross YMCA and the Okefenokee Track Club. He was also a member of the 1952 bowling team which won the State of Georgia Bowling Championship.
Outside of running and bowling, Buie had a passion for trains and Ford Mustangs. He had a kind and positive spirit, who brightened the day of anyone he encountered.
Along with his parents, Buie was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Lawanna “Wannie” Sapp Buie; seven siblings, Barnie Miller, L.V. Buie, Ruby Anderson, Ralph Buie, Lenwood Buie, Reba Dysert and Juanita Knowles; three brother-in laws, Ray Moody, Tommy Sapp and Joey Sapp; and four sister-in-laws, Peggy Beese, Carol Ann Rowland, Bonnie Sapp and Annette Glenn.
He is survived by two children, Tammy Farr and her husband Remley of Blackshear, and Greg Buie and his wife, Cindy, of Hoboken; four grandchildren, Hank Thorn and his wife Kellie, Kyle Buie and his wife Kalee, Rem Farr and Lindy Buie; four great grandchildren, Josie Buie, Braden Thorn, Dylan Thorn and his wife Marlee, and Rhilee Hubacher; three great great grandchildren, Kaden Thorn, Maybree Thorn and River Lee Thorn; one brother, Thomas Buie and his wife Josephine; two sister-inlaws, Carolyn Moody and Kathy Roberts; one brother-in-law, Jerry Sapp; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, May 19 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel.
A burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
