HORTENSE — Robert (Bobby) Dallon Sloan, 83 of Hortense, walked peacefully through the gates of Heaven at 5:50 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2026, surrounded by family.
Born in Brantley County, Sloan was the son of the late William Arthur Sloan and Mary Lynn Adams Sloan. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Sloan retired from Georgia Pacific with 37 years of service. After retiring, he worked as a driver for Sea Island Company.
Sloan was a long-time minister and member of the Hortense (formerly Sloan Hill) Church of God of Prophecy. He loved the Lord, his family, his church family and people. Sloan believed it was important to make people feel special and to share the good news of salvation.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Arthur Sloan; his mother, Mary Lynn Adams Sloan; three sisters, Ocie Flowers, Onie Flowers and Florence Blaylock; and five brothers, William Slyvester (Vet) Sloan, Eugene Sloan, Burt Sloan, Allen Sloan and Herman Sloan.
Survivors include his “bride” of nearly 61 years, Iris Proctor Sloan; daughters, Karen (Brad) Williams of Brunswick, Audry (Kelvin) Thornton of Hoboken, and Tannis (Eddie) Alligood of Hortense; grandchildren, Rebekah (Alejandro) Pittman of Blackshear, Anna Williams of Evans, Ga., Tyler Thornton and Sloan Thornton of Hoboken, and Nick Alligood, Madelyn Alligood and Bryson Alligood of Hortense; a sister, Zubie Wolverton of North Carolina; a brother, Herschel Sloan of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Saturday, May 16 at the Hortense Church of God of Prophecy.
Interment was at the Hortense Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brad Williams, Kelvin Thornton, Eddie Alligood, Tyler Thornton, Nick Alligood and Bryson Alligood.
Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
