Last week, a convoy of trucks hauling campers and trailers rolled into the Satilla Grocery parking lot. The line of vehicles had come from halfway across the state, from Lizella Baptist Church just outside of Macon.
The church delivered the campers as part of the grassroots recovery efforts, in conjunction with the local citizen’s disaster response group Hope For Brantley.
Lizella Baptist Pastor Chris Minton spoke about the church’s efforts in a Facebook post, saying, “Grateful to serve with such a sweet and compassionate church. Our people gave generously and we were able to purchase seven campers to take to Brantley County to give to families who lost their homes to the recent fires.” He continued, “These campers will be a great blessing while these families rebuild their homes.”
Hope for Brantley is founded and operates by Katina Herrin Gadomski, Amanda Stanfield and James Goolsby.
These campers were not the only ones Hope for Brantley has provided for fire victims; the organization has shared videos on social media of donated campers being renovated and cleaned up for new residents.
