Two members of the Waycross Middle School family were honored at the May meeting of the Ware County Board of Education as recipients of the district’s Golden Achievement Awards, recognizing exceptional service to students, colleagues, and the school community.

Alesia Gibson, recipient of the Certified Golden Achievement Award, was praised by Principal David Hitt for her leadership, instructional excellence, and deep commitment to students.

Coach Gibson serves as an 8th grade co-taught Language Arts teacher, 8th grade team leader, and coach for multiple athletic programs. Hitt described her as a premier teacher-leader whose influence extends well beyond the classroom.

“Her leadership throughout our district is exceptional, but where she truly makes the most impact is in the lifelong relationships she builds with students,” Hitt shared during the presentation.

The Classified Golden Achievement Award was presented to Shelly Bristow, whose career at Waycross Middle School has included service in selfcontained classrooms, general education support, the Media Center, and leadership of the school’s athletic concession operations.

Hitt commended her reliability, versatility, and unwavering dedication to the school’s mission.

“As a principal, I cannot begin to tell you how much it means to have someone that shows up every day, finds a way to make the mission happen, and does so with grace and excellence,” he said.
