ATHENS — Ware County had two track members on the podium, Pierce County placed three and Brantley County one during the GHSA Track & Field State Championships held at the University of Georgia Track & Field Complex.
The Gators’ Adarius Brown and Cameron King posted Top 8 finishes in the Class 4A meet held Monday, May 11.
The Bears’ Omar Jinks medaled in two events while Amir McKenzie placed in another. The Lady Bears’ Sahara Minott also medaled in the Class 2A meet Thursday, May 14.
The Lady Herons’ Mailey Thigpen was the lone member to place at the Class A DI meet Tuesday, May 12.
Class 4A
Cartersville rolled to the team title in the boys’ division piling up 70 points, with Benedictine second with 48.
Ware County tied for 27th with North Springs at eight points with 43 schools represented.
Brown finished third in the high jump event clearing 6-foot-4. Davion Jones was 11th with a height of 5’8”. Cartersville’s Xavier Lowe won the event clearing 6’8”.
King placed seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 44’1”. The winning distance was 51’1” by Maynard Jackson’s Bryce Mines.
Jawaun Leblanc placed ninth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.25 seconds. Southwest DeKalb’s Amari Scott won the title, posting a time of 13.77 seconds.
Class 2A
KIPP Collegiate captured the boys’ title with 63 points while Shaw piled up 96.3 points, for the girls’ title.
The Lady Bears tied for 37th in the 38-team girls’ meet with one point. The Bears placed 22nd with 14 points in the 38team boys’ meet.
Minott garnered the lone point with an 8th-place finish in the shot put with a heave of 34’2.5”. The winning mark was 37’10” by Shawl’s Payton Keeling.
The Lady Bears’ 4x400m relay team ran to a 13th-place showing with a time of 4:32.82. Shaw posted a winning time of 4:04.07.
The 4x100m relay team finished 14th with a time of 52.13 seconds. Shaw won the event with a time of 46.73 seconds.
Zanyria Monroe placed 15th in the 300m hurdles with a time of 54.12 seconds. Amarushakur Harris of Booker T. Washington clocked a 45.88-second winning time.
Jinks recorded the best finish in the tri-county area placing second in the 100m finishing with a time of 10.58 seconds. Kameran Warren of Booker T. Washington finished first with a time of 10.49 seconds.
Jinks placed fifth in the 200m with a 21.50-second clocking. Warren was first with a time of 21.21 seconds.
McKenzie was seventh in the high jump with a 6’2” clearing. East Jackson’s Branturan Callahan won the event at 6’8”.
Class A DI
Bleckley County swept the titles with the Lady Royals totaling 81 points and the Royals 98.
The Lady Herons placed 29th with one point.
Thigpen finished eighth in the discus with a throw of 100’2”. Claxton’s Jayda Jordon paced the field with a distance of 139’4”.
Klara Barnes placed 14th in the 1,600m event posting a time of 6:12.43. Banks County’s Ansley Moore finished first with a time of 5:07.42.
Malachi Saunders was 11th in the high jump at 5’8”. Putnam County’s Bill Waters won the event clearing 6’6.5”.
