Long-awaited improvements to Blackshear City Park are about to get underway.
The city has published a public notice in recent weeks, advertising some parts of the park will also be closed or off-limits during the approximately 12 month long project.
Planned improvements include the construction of new pickleball courts, installation of updated playground equipment for kids, development of a large, open-air shelter, creation of a walking path, replacement of existing landscaping and the addition of a newly updated Veterans Memorial to honor local men and women who have served our country. Understanding that the veterans memorial in the park is a sensitive issue close to the hearts of many residents, the city has included an additional public statement regarding the temporary removal, reconditioning and reinstallation o f the existing veterans memorials.
