(The Patterson City Council discussed and/or voted on the following items during their monthly meeting Thursday, May 14.)
Public hearing: The council approved a rezoning request for a 0.59 acre tract at 3416 and 3424 Nellie Street, Patterson. The request is to rezone the property from single family residential to multi-family residential to build duplexes. There was no opposition to the request during a public hearing held prior to the meeting.
Speed bump and speed limit sign on Gardner Street: Lauren Johnson was on the agenda to request speed bumps and a speed limit sign be installed on Gardner Street, but Johnson was not present and the item was struck without comment. Public works director Tyler Stokes announced he would be replacing the speed limit sign on the street.
Department reports: Fire Chief/Public Works superintendent Tyler Stokes announced speed bumps have been installed on Thomas Street and Peach Avenue. He also reported work continues on renovations to the old forestry building and on the recreation fields, both on Georgia Highway 32. The fire department responded to eight fire calls and one medical assist calls during April. Firemen also participated in four training events for a total of eight hours of in service training. He also reported the city’s brush truck is back in service after having brake and pump repairs. Police Chief Nick Strickland reported his department responded to a total of 19 calls in April, including three traffic accidents. City Clerk Laura Kate Dixon had nothing to report.
Next meeting: The next regular monthly meeting will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at Eagle Station.
