Bishop Avery Jewel Myles

Bishop Avery Jewel Myles, 95, released his earthly hold and took hold of God’s unchanging hand Monday, May 11, 2026
He was born May 24, 1930, to the late John and Daisy Myles. He was the fifth of eight children. He received his education through the Ware County School System where the foundation for his lifelong wisdom, discipline and devotion to service was first nurtured.
He worked as a bridge worker with CSX Railroad until his retirement in 1989.
He was saved at an early age in 1947 and was called into the ministry of preaching the gospel at the age of 24. These years laid the foundation for the life and ministry of a humble servant.
Bishop Myles’ mentor was the late anointed Senior Bishop H.J. Echols, Senior Bishop Pastor of H.J. Echols Tabernacle First Born Church of the Living God, Inc.
Bishop Myles’ first appointment as a pastor was in Homerville.
Bishop Myles pastored many churches. His longest pastoralship was between St. John First Born Church, in. Jesup and Bethel Temple First Born Church, Inc. Blackshear. His pastoralship lasted over 70 years.
His legacy of love, leadership and spiritual excellence will continue to inspire generations to come.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 22, at the Bethel Temple First Born Church, 209 Burroughs Street, Blackshear.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23, from the St. John Holiness First Born Church, 386 West Poplar Street, Jesup.
Interment will follow in the Blackshear City Cemetery, Bazemore Drive, Blackshear.
