Officials in Waycross government believe the city is on the move, and Mayor Michael-Angelo James invites the community to hear what’s in the future next week at his annual “State of the City” address.
Doors at C.C. McCray City Auditorium, 865 Pendleton Street, open at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 15 for a noon start to the program.
Theme for this year’s address is “Expansion – A City on the Rise.” The theme reflects a defining season for Waycross, one civic leaders think is marked by strategic growth, strengthened partnerships, and renewed momentum across neighborhoods, businesses, and community institutions.
Mayor James and the City Commission are proud to announce the 2026 State of the City.
“Waycross is not standing still,” Mayor James said. “We’re expanding our vision, our opportunities, and our impact. This year’s address is about more than progress, it’s about positioning our city for sustainable growth and ensuring every resident has a place in the future we are building together.”
The address will highlight key milestones from the past year while outlining bold priorities that will drive continued expansion in economic development, infrastructure, and community well-being.
This edition of Mayor James’ view of the city will be his next-tolast in the office. His second term expires Dec. 31, 2027.
