Renovations to Griffis Brick Room are now underway at Eagle Station

Renovations are now underway at the Richard Griffis Room at Eagle Station in Patterson.

Mayor Dedi Thomas said he is pleased with the work on the venue as he gave a report on the renovations at the Patterson City Council’s regular meeting last week.

The work underway in the “brick room” includes installation of insulation and window tinting and painting. B&B Contractors of Blackshear is doing the work and The Barnard Company of Patterson supplied the materials.

Prior to the renovations, there were climate control issues in the room due to the lack of insulation and the large windows.

Named for retired local pharmacist Richard Griffis, the room is used as a venue for receptions, showers, reunions and other community events.

It is one of several spaces available for rent at Eagle Station, which also houses the Patterson City Hall complex.

Eagle Station was formerly the Patterson High School. Constructed in 1931, the school closed in 1981 and merged with Blackshear to form Pierce County High School.

Improvements on the facility were done using the 2008 SPLOST )special purpose local option sales tax).
