BEARVILLE — Topseed Pierce County’s Lady Bears have earned a trip to their second consecutive “Final Four” following a 40 victory eighth-seed Rockmart here Friday afternoon.

The Lady Bears (22-1) improved to 9-4 all-time in second matches with a 5-0 victory, all in straight sets, over 16th-seed Sonoraville Tuesday, April 27.

PCHS climbed to 5-4 all-time in “Elite 8” matches with the May 1 victory over Rockmart after having won in its last two appearances in 2023 and 2025. The Lady Bears also own victories in the 2012 and 2013 tournaments.

Rockmart, seeded eighth, beat 25th-seed Ringgold in the first round and 24th-seed Jackson in the second round.

The Lady Bears will face fourth-seed Morgan County or 21st-seed Hart County in the semifinals Tuesday, May 5. PCHS will be in search of its first-ever “Final Four” victory after losing in the semifinals to Westminster in 2012, Woodward Academy in 2013, Berrien in 2023 and Columbus in 2025.

Regionmate Appling County, seeded sixth, squares off against seventh- seed Pike County or 15th-seed Stephens County in the other semifinal The Class 2A championship match is set for Wednesday, May 13 at the Rome Tennis Center.

PCHS had relatively easy time against Sonoraville, winning all five matches in straight sets.

Marlee Kate Weatherington had the toughest match at No. 1 singles against Sonoraville’s Morgan Guyton surviving with a 7-5, 6-4 victory. Mattie Lee posted a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 2 over Ellison Harper. Jasmine Sergent notched a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Raye Davis.

The No. 1 doubles duo of Eva Horne and Abby Higginson had no trouble recording a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Pamela Aguilar and Addie King. The No. 2 team of Addie Brown and Riley Chambless pulled away for a 7-5, 6-1 decision over Kylee Pate and Marley Hall.

No. 1 Lady Bears......4 No. 8 Rockmart.......0

Pierce County won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles and swept the doubles competition to knock off Rockmart.

Weatherington downed Madi Sanders 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles with Sergent posting a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Ansley Summerville at No. 3. Mattie Lee was up a set at No. 2 when her match with Chloe Motes was pulled. Lee won 6-4 and was tied at 1-all in the second set.

Horne and Higginson had little trouble at No. 1 doubles beating Peyton Elrod and Kylie Hicks 6-0, 6-2. The No. 2 tandem of Brown and Chambless knocked of Evie Swift and Patsy Morris 6-3, 6-0.
