The City of Blackshear has officially proclaimed May as Mental Health Awareness Month, thanks in part to the leadership of Mayor Keith Brooks.

The proclamation recognizes the vital connection between mental health and overall well-being, as well as the impact mental illness has on individuals, families and communities. It also emphasizes the importance of reducing stigma, increasing awareness and ensuring access to appropriate care and support services.

Mayor Brooks’ support highlights the city’s commitment to promoting understanding and encouraging open conversations surrounding mental health. Community leaders hope this proclamation will inspire residents to seek help when needed and to support one another.

Apex SBMH offers services in mental health, behavioral health, substance use, and developmental disabilities, working to ensure individuals and families have access to the care and support they need.

“If you or someone you know is struggling, please call our admissions unit at 1-800-342-8168. We are here to help,” organizers shared.

As Mental Health Awareness Month approaches, residents are encouraged to take part in local efforts to raise awareness, support mental wellness, and remind those in need that they are not alone.
