Neal Bennett Jr. of Blackshear was a first runner-up for the annual Student Employee of the Year Awards at the University of Georgia earlier this month.

Bennett, graduate assistant for the Certified Nursing Assistant Virtual Skills Evaluation (CNA VSE) grant program, was nominated by Cameron McMillin. Bennett works for the Institute for Disaster Management.

McMillin complimented Bennett’s work ethic.

“Neal’s sense of social awareness and responsibility is central to how and why he excels in our department,” he said. “He is not driven by recognition of self-edification, but by a genuine commitment to the mission and impact of the CNA VSE program. Neal understands that behind every data point is an individual seeking opportunity within Georgia’s healthcare system.”

The event honored 100 outstanding student employees, nominated by their supervisors. Special recognition was given to the graduate and undergraduate Student Employees of the Year, runners-up and the winning student employee team.

Student Employee of the Year is an annual award determined by a 15member selection committee that features faculty and staff members from across the UGA campus. The committee evaluates each student nominee utilizing the six professional competencies that UGA has designated to measure and assess student professional growth including critical thinking, analytical thinking, communication, social awareness and responsibility, leadership and collaboration and creativity and innovation.

The Student Employee of the Year awards are a creation of the National Student Employment Association, and awards are given out on hundreds of campuses across the nation.
