PCHS Theatre to perform Anastasia, May 7 - 9
Pierce County High School will “journey to the past” May 7-9 with their performance of the beloved musical tale of Anastasia.
The community is invited to join in on the magic.
Tickets will be sold for $10 each at the door, with performances starting promptly 7 p.m. all three nights.
Veterans information event, May 8 AmVets Post 1857, in cooperation with the city governments of Offerman, Patterson and Blackshear, will host a veterans info session 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, May 8. Topic covered will include VA andf Medicare coordination, surviving spouse benefits, secondary conditions which increase VA disability ratings and other topics. The event will take place in the NFC gym, located at 705 College Avenue in Blackshear.
Blood Drive in Blackshear, May 12 The American Red Cross will have a blood drive from 1-6 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at the Southeast Georgia Regional Agriculture Center (formerly the NFC building), 705 College Avenue. in Blackshear.
Bridge mental health outreach
The Bridge, a mental health outreach program, is coming to Blackshear 9 a.m. 2 p.m. May 16. A free and confidential event, case managers, registered nurses and social workers will be on hand to assist in connecting people with available resources.
Hotdogs and hamburgers will be served on site. The event wil take place at 623 Sycamore Street in Blackshear.

Diabetes support group meets first Saturdays
The Talki Foundation’s monthly support group for people in Ware County and surrounding areas with diabetes and their caregivers will hold meetings the first Saturday of every month.
The support group meets 11 a.m. in the Hospital Annex Classroom, 1800 Alice Street, Waycross.
The support group, called 912 Diabetes Initiative support group provides educational resources and a chance to connect with others. Talki Foundation President Charlie Komons facilitates the monthly meeting which is hosted by Memorial Satilla Health.

Vietnam Veterans Chapter meets monthly
Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1070, meets the second Thursday of each month at Captain Joe’s Restaurant on Plant Avenue in Waycross.
The meal begins at 3:30 p.m. and the meeting follows at 4 p.m. meetings. All Vietnam veterans their wives and the public are invited to attend. For more information, call Clifton Baker at (803) 591-8544.
TOPS group meets weekly in Waycross
Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Group, a non-profit weight loss support group, meets weekly Thursday evenings at the First Presbyterian Church, 601 Hill Street, Waycross. Weigh in is 6-6:25 p.m, followed by the meeting at 6:30-7 p.m. One visit can be made without joining. Annual dues include a TOPS magazine every other month. Youth fishing derby in Folkston, June 6
Friends of Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is hosting its 7th Annual Youth Fishing Derby from 8-11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6. The purpose of this derby is to provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy a fun, outdoor recreational activity. The event is free and will be held at Folkston Elementary School Lake located behind Folkston Elementary School at 285 Little Phoebe Road, Folkston, 31537.
Concessions including snow cones and hot dogs will be available from the Chill Zone.
