Sheriff’s deputies get training on 988 suicide, crisis hotline
Shown above (l-r) are Rebecca Toth, Deputy Hunter Griffin and Edward Johnson at the recent crisis hotline training. If you have an emergency or need immediate assistance, please dial 911 for help.

Rebecca Toth, Regional Director of Mobile Crisis Response Services with Benchmark Human Services, and Edward Johnson spoke with employees of the Pierce County Sheriff's Office about services offered through the 988 suicide and crisis lifeline unit.

The pair explained the services callers will receive when they either call or text 988 or use the chat function at the website 988lifeline.org.

When someone calls, texts or chats online, a person in crisis will be connected with compassionate care and support for any mental health or substance use-related distress. Anyone, whether a person in crisis or someone supporting a person in crisis, can reach 988 in the United States through any land line, cell phone and voice-over internet device.

If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of suicide, a mental health or substance use crisis, or any other kind of emotional distress, contact 988 Lifeline by texting or calling 988 or online at 988lifeline.org to be connected to a compassionate support person.

For additional questions about these services, please e-mail [email protected] v, or contact Rebecca Toth at 260-888-4732, or email her at rtoth@benchmarkhs. com.
