ATKINSON — A 32-year-old Hortense woman was injured when the water tanker she was driving flipped on its side, sliding across the median and two east bound lanes of traffic.

Ashley Marie Perry was traveling west in the right lane along State Route 38 in a 1999 Peterbilt 357 tanker, according to the report of Georgia State Patrol Trooper Chase Middleton. The vehicle ran off the south shoulder while rotating counterclockwise.

The tanker then left the roadway and struck a guardrail, causing it to overturn onto its passenger side. It continued for approximately 300 feet while crossing the median and both east bound lanes.

The Peterbilt traveled approximately 180 feet before striking the guardrail on the south side of the roadway (east boud side) coming to an uncontrolled rest facing south on its passenger side.

Perry was transported for treatment to Southeast Georgia Health Systems in Brunswick.
