Scammers impersonating law

There are many varieties of scams and fraud employed by criminals, which continues to thrive and flourish with the advent of phones and social media.

The Brantley County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is now warning citizens of yet another scam that seems to be targeting Brantley County residents.

The gist of the scam is simple — the scammers call, impersonating Brantley County law enforcement, requesting payment of bond, or some other fee.

“The Brantley County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call you to ask for a bond payment or any money over the phone,” a statement posted to the BCSO Facebook page stated. “If you receive a call like this, it is a scam—hang up and block the number immediately.”

The post also states “Scammers are targeting our community — especially during this difficult time.”

Any residents with questions about bonds or other payments can contact BCSO directly at 912-462-6141.
