ST. SIMONS ISLAND — Mary Evelyn Adams Cook, 93 of St Simons Island, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 in her home surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Cook was born October 3, 1932 in Atlanta to Mary Hester Adams and John Burgess Adams Sr.
After graduating from Georgia State College for Women (GSCW), Mrs. Cook moved to Brunswick in 1956 where she taught Home Economics at Glynn Academy for 10 years.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Clark Howell Cook Jr, two infant daughters, Angela Denise (1965) and Karen Mildred (1970); and her sister, Eufala Brandenburg.
Mrs. Cook is survived by her children, Kimberly Cook of Rex, Ga., and Katherine Cook Sapp of St Simons Island; two grandchildren, Matthew Sapp of Brunswick and Mary Katherine Yawn (Matt) of Hortense; a great-granddaughter, Harper Yawn; a sister, Jane McKenzie (Fulton) of Marietta; a brother, John B Adams (Debbie) of Lawrenceville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles.
A memorial service was held Saturday, May 2 at the St Simons United Methodist Church with a reception following the service.
