This past week or so, I have taken a lot of pictures in Brantley County and many (I should say most of them) have not been pretty.
I have met and talked with many of the firefighters and this group here came from Oregon.
I asked one of them how long did it take them to drive to Brantley County to help with this fire. It was a four-day drive.
They will possibly be leaving tomorrow (Mon-day, May 4) or Tuesday (May 5) with the fire almost being contained now at 60+ percent.
After talking with them for a while, just about everyone in the group asked me how could they see an alligator? I sent out a few emails and, if everything works out before they leave, the Okefenokee Swamp Park (OSP) will be bringing some alligators and maybe a few other critters to the morning meeting Monday (May 4).
This group was the whole reason I tried so hard to get the Okefenokee Swamp Park to bring a gator(s) to the Lulaton Airport. I hope they get to see it.
Every one of the firefighters I have talked to have been so friendly. I just found out we had firefighters come from 35 different states to help with this wildfire here in Brantley County.
It has burned 120 homes and over 22,600 acres of land. It is the biggest disaster in Georgia’s history. I have not received the count for how many different counties came to help yet, but there have been a lot of them for sure.
