Annie Ruth Gowan Pierce, 80, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 3, 2026 in Blackshear.
She was born Thursday, August 30, 1945, in Blakely, to Justin H. Gowan Sr. and Lottie Ruth Gowan.
She was a devoted beautician, known for her gentle touch and warm smile that brightened the days of many in her community. Her dedication to her craft was matched only by her commitment to her faith. She most recently attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Blackshear.
She will be remembered for her unwavering love, kindness, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Survivors include her loving children, Carol Pettis (Jason) and Alex Barfield (Mylan), who were the pride and joy of her life. She was a doting grandmother to nine grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 23 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Her siblings, Justin Gowan (Kristal), Mamie Tyler and Marion Aunspaugh, who will forever cherish the memories they shared.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Pierce; her parents, Justin H. Gowan Sr. and Lottie Ruth Gowan; her daughter Cindy Ann Mathews; her granddaughter Farrah Spivey; her brother Jimmy Roy Gowan and his wife Charlie Ruth Gowan, and her brothers-in-law Wayne Aunspaugh Sr. and Ben Tyler.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, May 6 from the Manry Jordan Hodges Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Sharp officiating.
She will be laid to rest at Centerville Cemetery.
Pallbearers honoring Annie’s memory will be Jarrett Barfield, Austin Barfield, Eric Bennett, Jason Pettis, Ryan McNulty and Travis Tyler.
Honorary pallbearers include Bubba Rudd, Wayne Aunspaugh, Justin Gowan, Josh Tyler and Ty Joe Tyler.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home of Blakely who have provided compassionate care during this difficult time.
