Longtime Waycross real estate professional and auctioneer Joseph Terry Hansford died last week. He was 81.
A Celebration of Life for Hansford, who died April 23 at his Ware County home after an extended illness, was held Monday, April 27. A Marine Corps veteran during the Vietnam War who attained the rank of sergeant, Hansford was laid to rest with full military honors in Oakland Cemetery after the service. Hansford was owner and operator of Hansford Realty & Auction. He served as a tobacco auctioneer from 1973 to 2002 and staff appraiser for Ware County in 1976. A native of Casey County, Ky., Hansford also served as Active Real Estate Sales Appraiser, and Auctioneer from 1975, and Active Personal Property Appraiser and Licensed Real Estate Broker from 1980 until his death.

Hansford was Chairman of the Georgia Auctioneers Commission in 1994 and Treasurer of the Southeast Georgia Board of Realtors in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Janice “Jan” Ivey Hansford. He is survived by daughter Terralyn H. Brown and her husband Jimmy of Waycross, as well as three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
