Special to the WJH The Ware County Board of Commissioners recognized Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner Laura Cox as Employee of the Month during Monday’s regular meeting, highlighting her leadership, professionalism, and steady service to citizens during a challenging period for the Tax Commissioner’s Office.
Cox, who has served as Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner since July 2023, is responsible for processing tax payments, identifying delinquent properties for tax sales, assisting with tax sale procedures, arranging partial- payment agreements, and handling tags and titles.
Her strong rapport with the public is well-known, many residents willingly wait in line specifically for the opportunity to be served by her.
In recent months, Cox assumed the full duties of the Tax Commissioner while Commissioner Roger Collins recovered from open-heart surgery.
Despite the unexpected circumstances and increased workload, she guided the office with what county leaders described as exceptional professionalism, compassion, and competence.
Under her leadership, the office continued to provide uninterrupted, high-quality service to taxpayers.
As Collins continues his recovery, Cox remains responsible for day-to-day operations as needed. She also serves on the Waycross- Ware County Land Bank Authority.
Human Resources Director Theresa Young praised Cox as an invaluable asset to the Tax Commissioner’s Office, Ware County government, and the community at large.
