The Southeast Cancer Walk has been rescheduled after organizers decided to postpone the event due to the ongoing wildfires and smoky conditions in the area.
Originally scheduled for Friday, April 24, the event now will be held Friday, May 29.
Plans for the rescheduled event remain the same as the one slated for last week.
The Southeast Cancer Walk will be held at 6 p.m. at the Tiger Field walking track off College Avenue behind the Pierce County Library and the Pierce County Board of Education in Blackshear.
The walk has been on hiatus since the coronavirus pandemic hit in 2020. The last one was held in 2019.
The event brings together participants from Pierce, Ware and Brantley counties for food, fun and fellowship, while also raising money for the community- driven non-profit organization whose purpose is to make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer in the three counties.
Every dollar raised stays in the tri-county area, providing vital support to local individuals and families battling cancer.
The Southeast Cancer Unit organization is powered by the generosity of volunteers. No funds are used for salaries, ensuring every contribution goes directly toward making a lasting impact.
The unit offers assistance to patients depending on availability and need. Funds can be used for medications, supplies, prosthesis, professional fees, nutritional supplements, durable medical equipment, wigs, gas gift cards and similar expenses.
