WARNER ROBINS — Ware County Lady Gator golf team punched its ticket to the Class 4A finals with a runner-up finish here Monday at the eight-team Area 1-AAAA golf tournament held at Southern Landings Golf Club.
The Lady Gators finished 29 shots behind Marist’s winning score of 245 posting a 274 team score in the April 20 event. Both schools advanced to the twoday state finals being staged Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 19 at Southbridge Golf Club in Savannah.
Finishing third and fourth were Druid Hills (296) and Wayne County (297). Both will play in the qualifying sectional at Georgia National Golf Club in McDonough.
Trailing the Lady Yellow Jackets were Perry (310), St. Pius X (318), Northview (334) and North Springs (396).
Marist had scores of 72-86-87 for its team score. The Lady War Eagles’ Ashlyn Taylor posted the even-par score of 72 shooting 37-35 with four birdies — three on her back nine — to lead the field of 38 golfers.
Ware County was led by Annslee Kate Grantham, who led the Lady Gators with a 42-45-87 score. Eevy Griffin shot 47-41-88 and Kate Thomas carded 47-52-89. Lily Peters posted 53-52-105.
Lady Gators fourth at Blue Devil Classic
STATESBORO — Ware County finished fourth here Saturday at the Blue Devil Classic hosted by Statesboro High at Georgia Southern University Golf Course.
Class 6A Richmond Hill’s Lady Wildcats captured the April 25 seventeam tournament with a two-person score of 155. They were followed by Class 3A Southeast Bulloch’s 177, Class A DII Metter’s 188, Ware Couty’s 190, Class 5A South Effingham’s 194, Class A Private St. Vincent Academy’s 206, and host Statesboro’s 228.
Richmond Hill’s Alexa Mohler was medalist with a five-over-par score of 77 to clip teammate Ella Kate Woods’ 78 in the field of 32 golfers.
Griffin led Ware County with a score of 93. Thomas followed with a 97. Grantham posted a 101 with Peters shooting 110.
