Thrift Brothers win bid to upgrade Gilman, Trudie Rds

Thrift Brothers LLC of Waycross was the low bidder on the local maintenance improvement grant (LMIG) for Gilman and Trudie Roads for street and drainage improvements.

Thrift Brothers bid $851,317.25.

Commissioners approved a recommendation for Thrift by the engineer for the project, Statewide Engineering of Douglas. The action came at the board’s regular monthly meeting Tuesday, April 7.

Other bidders included SEC Site Work of Blackshear for $877,711.42 and The Scruggs Company of Waycross in the amount of $889,856.52.

The project will include making the roads more durable and able to handle the large trucks that travel them every day. The project will include street and drainage improvements and will include work to channel water away from the neighborhoods near the mill and the overpass on Trudie Road.

County Chairman Neal Bennett said he is glad to get the bid awarded.

“We have been working on this project since 2022 and we had to do lots of negotiations with CSX Railroad to get the right-of-way necessary to get it to this point,” he said.

The work will include improvements to, but not replacement of the railroad underpass on Trudie Road.

The work is expected to take up to six months to complete.
