State Senator Russ Goodman (R-Cogdell) will run unopposed in this year’s primary and general election.
Board of Elections Supervisor Leah Ritch confirmed last week that Ralph Gregory Tyre of Waycross, Goodman’s opponent for the Republican primary nomination, has withdrawn his candidacy.
Votes cast for Tyre will not be counted in the May 19 primary.
Since there is no Democratic opposition, Goodman will continue to serve as State Senator for District 8.
Goodman, 49, a farmer from Clinch County, was first elected to the State Senate in 2020.
Senate District 8 includes Atkinson, Clinch, Echols, Lanier, Lowndes and Pierce Counties, as well as a portion of Ware County.
