(The Pierce County Board of Education discussed and/or voted on the following during their regular monthly meeting, Monday, April 13.)
Closed session and personnel: The board adjourned into a five minute closed session to discuss personnel at Monday’s meeting. After the session, the board voted to accept the resignation of Teresa Dixon, director of assessment and instructional support at the central office. Dixon will be retiring at the end of the school year. The board approved the hire of Heather Allen and Pennie Stovall, both teachers at the middle school. The board approved the resignations of Abbie Jackson, teacher at Patterson Elementary and Shawn Jackson and Lauren Whitaker, teachers at the high school.
Surplus tractor bids: Luke Pittman was awarded the high bid for a 1998 New Holland surplus tractor. Pittman bid $1,011 for the tractor. There were three other bidders including Daniel Hampton ($610), Lamar Dixon ($608) and Lamar Thigpen ($310). Anna Saucedo was the highest bidder at $3,500 at the February meeting, but declined to complete the purchase.
Recognitions: Young Authors winners for the district were recognized. Pierce County Middle School was also recognized for being named a 2025 National Blue Ribbon School.
