Midway, Patterson receive top honors
Pierce County Middle School (PCMS), Midway Elementary (MES) and Patterson Elementary (PES) all received banners of excellence from State School Superintendent Richard Woods last week.
Superintendent Woods presented several awards during a ceremony held at Midway Elementary. A cake and punch reception followed the awards ceremony.
PCMS received a National Blue Ribbon School Award for the first time ever.
The National Blue Ribbon distinction places PCMS among the top-performing schools in the nation.
PCMS also received growth awards for sixth grade English and language arts and for eighth grade math.
Principal Amanda Gay accepted the awards on behalf of the students and staff at the school.
Midway and Patterson also received awards for academic achievement and performance.
Midway received recognition for achievement in third grade English, language arts and growth banners for improvement in third grade and fifth grade English, language arts.
Superintendent Woods presented Principal Dr. Cole Walsh and former principal Dr. Brandi Todd with the awards on behalf of the students and staff at Midway.
Patterson received awards a pair of awards for third grade growth and third grade achievement in English, language arts and a John Hancock cursive banner for cursive writing for handwriting improvement.
Principal Amanda Lankford accepted the honors from Superintendent Woods on behalf of Patterson Elementary.
Superintendent Dara Bennett and Board Chair Duward Boatright were also in attendance at the ceremony.
