PCHS soccer splits with Coffee

BEARVILLE — Pierce County’s state-ranked Lady Bears and Bears closed out the 2026 soccer regular season splitting here Tuesday with Class 5A Coffee.

The ScoreAtlanta second-ranked Region 3-AA champion Lady Bears (11-3) won their 11th consecutive match via shutout in the opener beating the Lady Trojans (3-15), losers in 14 of their last 16 games, 4-0.

The fifth-seed Lady Bears host 28thseed Columbia Thursday, April 23 in a first round pairing.

The eighth-ranked Bears (10-5), the Region 3-AA runner-up, fell 5-4 in the nightcap to the Trojans (10-7), who stretched their winning streak to six consecutive matches.

Seventh-seed PCHS faces 26th-seed KIPP Collegiate (7-4) of Atlanta in a first round matchup Friday, April 24.

Jayli Sierra scored two first half goals leading PCHS to a four-goal victory over Coffee.

Liza Thornton gave the Lady Bears a 1-0 lead with a goal off a Sierra assist. Sierra followed with her first goal scoring off a pass from Brylee Walker with a bicycle kick.

Selah Griffis assisted on Sierra’s second goal for a 3-0 halftime lead. Sylvie Branch closed out the scoring on a free kick in the second half.

The Lady Bears’ defense was led by Addi Jordan, Kaylee Figueroa, Aly Yeomans, Blair Bennett and goalie Isabella Marx.

Coffee broke a 4-all tie scoring the game-winning goal near the five-minute mark to hand the Bears a tough loss.

The Trojans jumped out a quick 3-0 lead 10 minutes into the match. PCHS followed with the next three goals tying the match at 3-all headed to intermission.

Junior Cristian Romero scored two of the goals with fellow classmate Alex Lacot adding one.

“We were coming off of Spring Break and you could tell it,” said head coach Tommy Doss. “We were playing our best soccer before the week-long break and we came out and played our worst game against Coffee.”

The Trojans scored a goal midway through the second half for a 4-3 advantage. Lacot knotted the score at 4-apiece with a goal near the 10-minute mark. Coffee then netted the game winner five minutes later.

“We played better after we woke up, but it is hard to beat a good team anytime you spot them three goals,” said Doss. “At the same time, I was proud of the fight our guys showed because it would have been easy for most teams to roll over and give up once down three.”

All-Region Bears

PCHS had four players named First Team all-Region. Earning the spots were Fleming Cochran, Alex Lacot, Blayne McQuaig and Alejandro Perez.

Three Bears earned Second Team all-Region recognition. They were Austin Branch, Christian Klink and Lucas Sapp.

Four players received honorable mentions. The list includes David De-Leon, Mychal Jackson, Kade Meeks and Jayme Perez.

Regular season champion Crisp County had three players recognized as Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Goalkeeper of the Year. Savannah Arts Academy, who won the region tournament had the Offensive Player of the Year.

The head coaches for both programs shared Coach of the Year honors.
