Netters sweep SEB to finish atop Class AA power rankings

BEARVILLE — Pierce County’s tennis teams put a wrap on the 2026 regular season sweeping visiting Southeast Bulloch here Thursday.

The Lady Bears (19-1), ranked first in the GHSA power rankings, beat the Lady Yellow Jackets 4-1. PCHS bounced back from their first loss (5-0) at Statesboro April 2 after opening the season 18-0.

The Bears (18-2), also ranked No. 1 in the power rankings, easily knocked off the Yellow Jackets 5-0 for their 10th consecutive victory.

Pierce County’s teams enter the playoffs as No. 1 seeds in their respective 32-team bracket. Both will host 32nd-seed Johnson of Augusta Thursday, April 23.

Second round matches are scheduled for Wednesday, April 29.

PCHS escaped with a sweep of the singles matches to secure the victory.

Marlee Kate Wetherington rallied from a set down needing a 10-point tie-breaker to beat Rylee Veland 46, 6-4, 10-3 at No. 1 singles. Mattie Lee won in straight sets at No. 2 needing a first set tie-breaker to win 7-6 (8-6), 6-1. Jasmine Sergent rolled to an easy 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 over Lana Taylor.

The No. 2 doubles team of Addie Brown and Brooklyn Thomas rallied from a set down winning the 10point tie-breaker to beat Laina Erickson and Addie Smith 5-7, 6-1, 10-2. The No. 1 tandem of Eva Horne and Abby Higginson fell 6-4, 6-3 to Lyolia Fowler and Sydney Kate Aaron.

The Bears overpowered Southeast Bulloch dropping just two games in the five-match sweep.

J.C. Nimmer knocked of Riley Clifton 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 with Jeb Bradley posting a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Pratham Patel at No. 2. Aaden Carlson recorded a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 3 over Brodie Barron.

Both doubles teams rolled 6-0, 6-0. Kellen Roberts and Colby Coates bested Thomas Smith and Henry Clay at No. 1 while Greyson Rodgers and Thomas Lucas knocked off Parker Perryman and Daniel Choi.
