Traffic crossing the Plant Avenue bridge headed toward Blackshear has been known to be congested, noticeably so as the bridge construction has been underway.
However, a three-car accident about 4:19 p.m. April 13, left traffic backed up for nearly an hour, with cars lined all the way from the bridge to the neighborhood Wal-Mart.
According to the Ware County Sheriff’s Office report of Deputy Chase Highsmith, all three vehicles involved were eastbound crossing the bridge.
A Kia Sorento, driven by Jose A. Cruz Samites of Blackshear, was attempting to make a left-hand turn off the road. The Samites vehicle was followed by a Chevrolet pick-up, driven by Yancie Wade Britt of Patterson.
While both were stopped, Britt was rear-ended by a semi-truck driven by Jeremy Quaymon Shaw of Waycross. Britt’s car was subsequently pushed into the rear-end of Samites.
According to Highsmith’s accident report, the only injuries reported were to Britt, who sustained cuts. The cars were removed, and no citations were issued.
The road was reopened at 5:12 p.m., the report said.
