WAYCROSS — Mr. Jeffrey Ray Hayes, 67, of Waycross, died Thursday afternoon, April 16, 2026, at Memorial Satilla Health after a sudden illness.
He was born in Waycross to the late Rev. Emerson “Pete” Hayes and Shirley Adams Hayes. Hayes had made Waycross his home for his entire life.
He retired from United Insurance Company of America after 34 years of service. He was a member of Woodard Chapel where he loved to minister through singing. A man with a great sense of humor, Hayes always brightened the day of anyone he encountered. He enjoyed working on and riding his dune buggies. An avid fan of all sports, Hayes especially loved Ware County and the University of Georgia football, rarely missing a game.
Along with his parents, Hayes was preceded in death by his brother, David E. Hayes.
He is survived by three children, Landi Winder and her husband, Paul, of Nahunta, Shane Farmer and his wife, Shannon, of Hoboken, and Michelle Farmer of Warner Robins; his grandchildren, Greyson Winder, Bella Winder, Tanner Farmer and his wife, Madison, Laine Farmer, Gunner Farmer, and Bryson Farmer and his, wife Allee, and Gavin Hall; “relative” Elijah Green; his great grandchildren, Aiden Farmer, Asher Farmer, Sophia Farmer, Paxton Farmer, Easton Farmer, Emorsyn Farmer, Grayson Farmer, Leo Farmer, and Adalyn Hall; his sister-inlaw, Beth Hayes of Waycross; as well as numerous other relatives.
A funeral service was held April 20 at Woodard Chapel. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery.
