Traveling nurse paired prayer with medicine

She was special, I mean a sparkling jewel. And not just on the outside, but just as sparkly on the inside.

She’d never say it out of her mouth. She was small in frame and being loud wasn't her aim. She was from a time and place where boasting drew frowns.

If she felt an uprising to do so, well that was reserved for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her thing was she feared the Lord more than anything.

She never bothered with titles or jockeyed for a position. This woman of God preferred to leave those undesirable traits to others. Her very existence is known in the smallest of circles as the praying traveling nurse.

“Look at me! Answer me, O Lord my God! Light up my eyes, or else I will die.”

— Psalm 13: 3

Back then and during the week, she could be found traveling around Ware County. That’s right I said Ware. She was pleased as punch to be a resident of Waycross, Ga.

None of us understood her then. There was always a smile on her face, looking smeared all aglow. We never knew why she looked so shiny and new.

I was amazed as to why her eyes were light grey. Never knowing why. I thought to myself who had light grey eyes in our tribe? I later discovered long after her passing, I was seeing the light of the Lord, beaming from her eyes.

Why didn't we know she was on a mission? Furthermore, she was commissioned by God and truly the apple of His eye? This is what the Lord of Armies says:

“Afterwards, the Glory sent me to the nations who looted you. Whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye.”

— Zechariah 2: 8 After I came into partnership with Him, I came to the understanding as well as chewing on His word. It was clear her mission was on a need-to-know basis. In other words, it wasn’t my mission, so I wasn't privy to God’s instruction. We are called to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. She just took her voyage/journey so seriously.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere — in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

— Acts 1: 8

If you happened to get her as your nurse in your home, you must’ve been really sick. She only traveled to those people, who were bedridden.

Here’s the part most never knew unless you were one of the sick ones. She didn't just come for those who were bound to the bed, because they were sick. She was requested from all over Ware County.

I remember when I was a new mother living in Atlanta, she would proudly say, “Ware County the largest county in Georgia.”

I learned later why she was so proud. God chose her and she knew she was to be the praying traveling nurse.

It took God bringing me back here all these years later to discover who our “Grandma Ginny,” really was.

I bet you want to know how I discovered Grandma was a treasured jewel.

I read in her paperwork how so many people would write letters and send her cards with pictures, thanking her for praying for them, and how they knew God personally healed them through her hands and precious heart.

I bet by now you're wondering who this treasure is. Well she was our “Grandma Ginny,” but to her countless patients she was Virginia Cobb McMobley, who was born May 18, 1919, and lived until April 17, 2012.
